The Coorg Ride
Coorg has always fascinated me. I wanted to explore this place since I landed in Bangalore. Though I have done Mysore 7 times since then and thought of taking a turn towards Coorg almost all the times but could never do that.
Now time has come to fulfil this wish. I will be taking a much needed break and would be riding towards Coorg (Medikeri, Talkaveri). I need some peace so it won't be touch and come back ride. I will try to spend couple of days with the mother nature, far from city and rude people.
Details would come soon... Waiting restlessly for the weekend to rescue me.
One more day to go. Bought new phone for this trip. Called GPS dealers for GPS device and found it's pretty expensive to own one so preferred buying a smart phone with GPS, 8MP back and 2 MP front camera.
Recently, I was planning to ride Golden Quadrilateral (GQ). I was going through cities coming on and around GQ. Tried google and Mapmyindia and found that distance shown by both are same but there is drastic difference in the travel time displayed in two websites. It seems Mapmyindia people did in day time with traffic and google guys did in night with no traffic. Mapmyindia timings seems more realistic. But one of my friend finds even time show in google maps little more than he takes in travelling the distance. :) [ARJUN SURESH].
So whole point of above para was to document the distance of Coorg from Bangalore, surely I missed it's objective. But that's how a Computer Science Engineer Biker behaves!!! Mapmyindia says it is 259 Kms till Medikeri from Bangalore and it should take 5 hrs 23 mins google says it is 256 and would take 4 hrs 48 mins. We will validate this, and will post who is close... I am expecting some navigation support for my GQ trip from Mapmyindia still I won't be biased. :)
One day to go........
Finally, waiting is over. Going today (18th Feb 2012). Yesterday, went to a friend's [Ashu Sir's] place for dinner and had a good one so we will start our trip around 0900 hrs today.
Have a great weekend...And wish we too get to have good time, away from city and other tension.
-------After a long delay here is the trip log...enjoy... :)
Here it goes...
So finally it started at 0900 Hrs from IISc hostel on 18th Feb 2012. After a long time this much awaited ride happened. And it really made me feel alive. We took our first break after riding 81Kms. We had to stop as Sanju got an urgent call. We did initial 13 Km in 40 mins due to high traffic and next 68 Kms in just 55 mins ( guess that wasn't bad!). We clocked max speed 117 Km/hr. Good to know that my bike still has got power and does not fake. Life's happening again. All credit goes to Sanju and one of my true friend :)
Reached Medikeri, we did 262 km in 6hrs 10 min since we hit mysore highway, excluding first 13 km (data manipulation to make result look better :)). We took 3 tea, 2 tender coconunt water break and sanju's shaving and a fuel break. We did 63.5 kmph avg and had a narrow escape. We escaped being slammed between two cars moving over 90 kmph. Tacho meter touched 120 kmph but couldn't maintain that though I have got bike tuned 4 speed still it does just 115 kmph, comfortably.
We stayed in Medikeri Circuit house. It might be the best place to stay here. Peaceful and the relatively at high grounds.

We still got some charge left in us so going to witness sunset at Raja's seat. It was awesome. We also enjoyed musical fountain. Below we too can enjoy some glimpses (it's a video).
----------
Next day we went on for local site seeing.
Some fall...forgot name... but its only one around...
Exploring local places we headed towards the origin of Kaveri river, "Talkaveri". Road was smooth with curves :). We took a coffee break. We tasted honey too. I do not know if it is psychological or really things feel better far out routine and hectic life.
Some random clicks...
We managed to miss our route in hills too. And finally we entered the Talkaveri region.
At the entrance of "Talkaveri". One of a few snaps where we both are together...This is what happens when you are just two exploring places... :(
The temple is maintained well and is quite clean.
The "origin of kaveri". We offered prayers. This pound is the first one to receive the life giving water...
There is small hilltop adjacent to the temple.
View of temple from hilltop...
It is said that sapt rishis did YOG here...The top is completely rocky and its difficult to walk around barefooted...
Some clicks of sorroundings....
...observe the lotus in the below right pic...
After the first pond we saw, Kaveri water accumulates in this pond. Those white dots are coins...
Sri Bagandeshwara temple en-route...
Inside the temple...
Its meeting point of three streams....
Below are pics of Medikeri Palace...
The main building... Palaces in northern India look different or more magnificent compared to what I saw here. No offence, there might be reasons for this... May be some one can enlighten us with this...
Snaps taken from the peripheri of the palace.
These might be staff quarters...they were outside the palace but surrounded it...
An elephant pair...some more pics of quarters...
We could not understand why there quarters where made outside the palace...below right is a view of the city...
...
Now one of important thing to discuss...Places to EAT!!
We found lots of good places to eat. We are strict vegetarians, so this may not fascinate my friends from other school of eating preferences...but certainly my Veg friends would appreciate this.
Places we tried were:
1. Raintree
2. Amantrana
3. Neel Sagar
4. Athithi
1. Raintree: This place looks awesome. And the people who run it are jolly and cooperative. One night we delayed our dinner past 2300 Hrs...We could not find any place to dine... We got some sweets from bakery and were going to survive on that... Luckily, while roaming around we found this beautiful place...Though they had almost closed for the day, owner welcomed us and we had hot and yummy food...(one fact, we were really hungry by the time and had no hope of getting cooked food)...
Recommended for dinner...
-----------
2. Amantrana: We had our break fast and guess one lunch too here...Not a place you would like to go again and again...But surely you'll get lot of options for your breakfast...Recommended for Breakfast and quick lunch...
3. Neel Sagar:
It is more less like Amantrana. Recommended for break fast and quick lunch.
4.Athithi: We went multiple times for dinner to this place. Food is good and quite reasonably charged. Don't have pics of ambience. The below one is only the entrance. Good place and service...Good option for dinner...
In our last day of trip, we came down from Medikeri to saw Monastery. ..
------------
Hundreds of deepaks are lit in day... There are many such chambers...It looks magnificent even in day light...
Inside pics...taken from a far distance outside the temple...

Can anyone guess story depicted in the below left picture... I got no clue...
-------------
Finally, we visited the park..It hot, we were tired...still its a place worth visiting..
The right below snap was taken from the bridge in the left below pic...
There were so many, effortlessly they caught my sight...
The elephant ride...Elephant had flue... I am sure you would not like to ride elephant with flue...at least we won't..!!!
Some idols and artefacts...
------------
Way back...we headed back to our hide out...the Medikeri circuit house...
The-------- Sunset...
Finally, in our last day of stay in Medikeri we could catch sunset...

Wine shop..!!! No comments... Below right snap was our last picture in Medikeri...Taken by circuit house attended...Every one we met in this trip were so gentle and friendly guys...You never feel like coming back again to your routine...among ppl who call you true friend and hurt you most...
While coming back, we played rapid fire... We did 127 kms in 102 mins..non stop...avg 74.706 kmph...max speed 115 kmph...Considering we were riding Pulsar 150, this is considerably good average...From Medikeri, we stopped in one of coffee shop in Mysore...
En-route, sanju insisted paying homage to the great Tipu Sultan. He is considered the pioneer of the rocket engineering... And still British museum has some of them..
So here goes some snaps taken in and around Shrirangapattanam..

Life is beautiful...you won't get a second change to live a single second... Make friends you can spare your life happily for...Live moments such that it adds years and years of sweet memories in you life...
Some thing more is yet to come... Our new friend RE Classic 350 would soon be joining us...It's black, beautiful and of course powerful too... we two would be doing something harder and better than this pretty soon...Keep tuned...!!!
Take care...Have fun..
