Lets go home BABY!!!

lets go home...whenever you talk about going home if feels  good and that too with one of your old companion...It's just awesome...It'll make more sense if you have already seen heartbleed.

Now we too are going to share a long trip...Just two of us...

Trip is about to begin..and trip log is sure to come... :)

Cheers!!!

So here is the story....
After waiting for ages to next ride to enjoy, finally the day came when things were as unplanned as it should have been for a perfect ride. Things might not have been well planned but I was ready and so was my bike (after a quick repair from service center suggested by Rajesh; Thanks Rajesh, it was worth getting bike serviced there :) ).

We did this ride of 1600+ Kms ride with two stops...night stays at Hyderabad and Nagpur. On Aug 01, at 1300 hrs, we started measuring the National Highway 7, which leads to Hyderabad from Bangalore. It's the highway which happens to cross my native place too, REWA (MP). Ever since I knew this I wanted to make it to home riding on NH7. Clicked very few pics on the way and putting them to aid to travel log.

The trip was done in three segments:
Bangalore -Hyderabad (574 km)
Hyderabad-Nagpur (501 km)
Nagpur-Rewa(MP) (508 km)

Bangalore-Hyderabad

Started around 1300 hours from Bangalore and headed towards Hyderabad on NH7. This segment was best to ride with smooth road and virtually zero traffic at the time of day. Even climate helped, it was cloudy so no dehydration issue and I could manage with lesser breaks and luckily it did not rain.

It looks cool and tempting to ride, isn't it? I had a little bad start, as I reached Hebbal flyover in Bangalore, suddenly my speedometer stopped working. RPM meter was working but I felt lame without a functioning speedometer. And managing time would have been difficult. For a moment, I thought that I would manage with RPM meter alone as I was already behind schedule; and had to make it to Hyderabad before night. I did 10/15 kms and realized it would not be possible to follow schedule without a working meter. And started looking for bike service shop to get it replaced. I took nearly an hour to get the job done. As I had to buy cable separately and get it done in a service center. Anyway, once it was there and working, I felt confident and started again.

Refueling time... after hundreds of kms from Bangalore...Was little concerned as I did not notice any petrol bunk for some time...and fuel level was going low...

Climate was too good. It wasn't sunny, a bit clouded with chilling winds and without rains...perfect condition for a long ride....a BIKE RIDE...

Guess it was refueling time for petrol bunk too...

Could not take more pics but did some random clicks where ever I was taking breaks...Wish I had a helmet mounted camera, could have recorded everything enroute...

This Highway was one of the best roads I have ever rode and with virtually no one else on the road...I felt as if whole road was booked for our ride...

Ohhh!!!there is some one else too...

I had a Gems candy break here... :)

Little sunny still pleasant climate...

Most of pics are taken sitting on the bike...Was too lazy to get down and try better shots...Actually, was trying to make up for time I lost in getting the Speedometer repaired...

It started getting dark before I could make it to Hyderabad...and I could make it only by 2130 hrs...

It did not rain but it did drizzle a bit, when I was just about to reach Hyderabad city...

Hyderabad-Nagpur (Day 2)

Reached Hyderabad by 2130 hrs...Called my friend and college senior, Vijay ( he is a rocket scientist, seriously!!!)...Roamed around in city a bit and reached to his place by 2230...It was great time, chatting about old and good times, lovely food and a good sleep...Thank you sir...

Woke up "araam se" (actually, I have small issue in getting up early in morning) and started by 0930 hrs from his place to my next stop, Nagpur. Spent some time near "hussain sagar" lake, filled fuel tank and started towards Nagpur. Considering my last day trip, I thought if I could make it to Nagpur before 1600 hrs then I would continue to Jabalpur (MP), instead of staying overnight in Nagpur. Lets see if I could do that!

Seems, due to holiday roads were not crowded. Picture near "tank bund", even I did not that people call the lake as "TANK BUND"...

My partner...Ready to cruise through second segment of the trip...

There were many accident scenes but I did not stop to take pics. Once I thought of clicking it, then I realized that it might not be a good idea. So I took just two such pictures where it was apparently someone's mistake and was not a disturbing site.

Seems this truck had lost its control speeding on highways...no one seemed injured...

One of temples en-route...

This was interesting...Difficult to make out if it's natural or man made...Small hill made of huge stone piles...

Nagpur...It's still 306 kms...and I am on time..and still planning to continue ride and call it a day only after reaching Jabalpur...

It rained a bit here...Still no complains about roads...

Random click...looked soothing...

There was a surprise waiting and was about to show up...have a look below...

OMG! look at this now...If you recall road pics above, could you have imagined it? It's thick mud and was not so for a short distance. I had to cover 50/60 kms of road conditioned like this...Max bike speed 20kmph...

And I had company too...lots of big and heavily loaded vehicles were also trying to make there way on the same road..

I would say, road, actually, did not exist in this stretch...There were huge pot-hols  filled with mud...and worst was about to come...It rained! when we were struggling to make our way ...

Second and last pic of vehicle accident site. Now whose fault is this? Is  the driver guilty or the sate/central government who compel people to use such roads?

Who will bear losses? Why shouldn't govt pay when It's clearly a lack at their end.

Obviously, the long and bad road segment, you saw above, delayed me from my schedule of reaching Nagpur. I had planned to reach by 1600 hrs but could make it only by 2000 hrs. I saw bypass passing by while entering the City. Anyway, I thought resting over night was not a bad idea after all. Reached my place of stay, had a hot shower and hot tea, and slept...

There is a small and interesting story here. One of my friend told that he had observed temporary puncture repairing guys spreading nails around and opening a temporary shop with nothing else but a small box of tools. And when your are a victim, seeing puncture repairing guy you might feel luckiest person around where as it was the same guy who victimized you.

I don't know why but that story flashed by...I was recalling that my friend had suggested to be careful  riding vehicle if you see such temporary puncture repairing shops.

As I entered in Nagpur city. I stopped for a while to check maps to find the path to reach the place I was planning to stay for the night. I figured it out and as I started to move, I felt front Tyre wobbling...Volla!!! that was it...I did nearly 1000 km and had a puncture as I entered the city!....I had a foot pump and a pair of spare tubes with me but now I needed to find someone to fix it.

To my rescue, there was tyre shop and a puncture repairing guy in just 100m distance. I felt lucky as anyone should; I approached puncture repairing guy and asked him if he  could help me...The guy was busy as he was already repairing  one puncture..he nodded and asked me to bring my bike... He had just one tool box (no shop) and a pump to push air in cycles... We discovered it was a hole in tube, apparently a nail hole. I asked him to search for the nail. He could not find it. I told him that I traveled a long distance on good and bad roads both and my bike got punctured in a city with such a nice roads. It was funny to find that he was not agreeing that it was puncture made by a nail. I did not argue and before I could leave, another biker approached him seeking his favour to repair his bike puncture...Anyway, I guess there is nothing wrong in developing market for your business...This might be a requirement of most of businesses to make a demand for which they can supply their products/services...

Nagpur-Rewa(Day3)

Third and last segment of ride, another 501 kms to home. As usual woke up late and had breakfast by 0930 hrs...started packing and then realized that I had forgotten to  charge my mobile phone. It added to another half an hour delay...But I decided to charge it anyway....We were on our way by 1030 hrs...Nagpur to Rewa, via Jabalpur...

Bangalore -Hyderabad route was best segment, ride wise as roads were fantastic, took lesser time and was quite comfortable...On the other hand Nagpur to Jabalpur was the most comforting ride, coz it was green all around, with Jungle to pass through...

It was a restaurant, even I thought it was a temple at first glance...

Jabalpur, just  another 233 kms to do...

Jungle is about to start...it's always fun riding through jungle and that too alone...

So we are in...

Road was without divider, but guess most of roads passing through jungles are like this...Air was so fresh and pure...something which we never get chance to feel in cities...

I was riding slow enjoying the scenery...it was real fun...pleasing soothing...comforting...

There was something missing in this ride...what was it?...Any biker could easily guess!
yes....it was curves and bends...and here they come...Seeing curves most of bikers rev up their bikes a bit more...It's an instinct we can't do anything about it....

Jungle part was over and again it was plains....and it was time to speed up..I wanted to make it to home before it got dark...I had reasons for that...my friends and family would surely laugh at this line...

Just before entering Jabalpur, I had a tea break...and time to allow bike to cool down and prepared to make it home as early as possible..

This pic is from bridge over NARMADA river....I have found memories of Jabalpur...I did my college here...

I could not make home before it was dark and reached by 2100hrs...A little scared, it was a surprise and probably a shocking one...could not dare to take helmet inside home...rest is little personal to share here...but not hard to guess...

Thanks to Himanshu, Alind and Anita for their care and affection...Courtesy Dr Smita for proof reading...and her valuable suggestions....

It was a hell or solo ride...and a long time due...Enjoyed it a lot...We both had loads of fun...

Pl keep in mind when you are riding for long distance then avoid rushing...take proper rest...take lesser and lesser risks...be attentive...Whenever you feel fatigued, rest and get rid of it...And don't ride at nights... Happy riding guys...

  5. Its inspiring, driving nahi re baba, your vivid writing :). Honestly hats off to you.

I guess, the most difficult part of this trip would have been "taking your helmet inside the home".

    1. Indeed that was the hard part. Infact I did not take it inside and left if hanging on with BIKE.
I still remember the scene, No one noticed me entering the room where every one was discussing something important. I just sat at the corner and waited for some one to notice me.
No one did, then I gave my opinion too on the discussion going on...Got a mixed expression from Maa, happy, confused, and angry. She did not take any time in realizing what had I done. And then it started. Every one forgot their discussion and started scolding me for next 5/10 mins, after that only I was allowed to be part of the pack.

  7. So glad that you logged this 'adventure'.
Awesome snaps ...Especially that Jungle pic with signboard is my favourite.
So excited and thrilled by reading your bike riding experiences (notably that unexpected Bandipur jungle stay, temporary puncture shop repair guy, 37 hair pin bends, talkaveri).Found your Bike safety and ride planning tips very educating and handy. Loved your unique writing, especially "Life is a book and if you don't travel then you just read one page of it","Autos are most agile things on the road, worse than cattle.","Two wheelers are most vulnerable thing on the road.","Live to drive but Drive well to life long ".We should definitely plan a short trip in near future.
Why don't you share how you maintain your bike's mileage(tips and tricks) and your recommendations for what to look in a new bike (will definitely be helpful for newbies like me :P)
